Russell on the Issues that Matter Most to Virginians
Affordability
Russell Brooks has lived in Fairfax County for more than two decades and raised his family here. Like so many neighbors, he’s seen firsthand how it has become more difficult and costly to manage a comfortable lifestyle from housing, food, and childcare to utilities. Russell wants to ensure families of all types can continue to live, work, and build their futures in the community they love. He will fight for responsible policies that lower costs for working families, expand access to affordable housing, and protect middle-class Virginians from being priced out of their own neighborhoods.
Health Care
Russell believes access to affordable, quality health care is fundamental to a strong and compassionate Commonwealth. With federal funding declining under the Trump administration, Virginia must step up to protect essential services for working people, seniors, people with disabilities, and other at-risk Virginians. Russell will work to defend access to care, strengthen community-based health services, and ensure that health care decisions are made with people, not politics, in mind.
Education
Education is deeply personal to Russell. As a parent and longtime Fairfax resident, he understands the challenges students, parents, and educators face. His two children attended and graduated from Virginia high schools. His son went on to graduate from the University of Virginia.
Russell’s priorities are to ensure that parents are heard and respected on the matters that pertain to their children. One focus must be to hold FCPS, both central administration and the schools, to the highest level of accountability to both parents and students. He will be a voice to ensure a strong and effective FCPS commitment to diversity and equality. He will work to enhance civic education as well as technical and professional training in FCPS. While he appreciates the importance of STEM, he shares the parental concern about an overemphasis on technological approaches to early childhood education.
Russell will fight to ensure schools are properly resourced, students are safe, and teachers and school staff are paid fairly and treated with the respect they deserve.
Democracy
Russell Brooks believes democracy is central to what truly makes America great. To keep our democracy strong, everyone’s rights must be protected, no matter their race, ethnicity, religion, or gender. Everyone! At a moment when fundamental freedoms are under attack at the federal level, he will stand up for voting rights, equal protection, reproductive freedom, the rule of law, and the right of every Virginian to have their voice heard. Russell will work to ensure our democracy remains strong, inclusive, and accountable to the people — not special interests.
